So this week’s challenge was posted by Brian Potvin – of the Northern Pikes – Growing up in Winnipeg (and I’m dating my self here) I got to see the Northern Pikes a few times back in the day! As I recall we even did a New years Eve Party at the Winnipeg Convention Centre where they head lined in the early 90’s.

Brian’s Challenge is to write a story song – one that tells a complete story arc withing the song. For some reason I really struggled with this for the first few days – I didn’t have any musical or story ideas that I liked, then on the third day I had something, which was fortuitous as I had a family camping trip planned and Had to leave that afternoon for the rest of the week! The resulting song is called Another Town and is loosely based on my Fathers experience as a Mountie. He enlisted in the early 50s in in those days they would move the cadets away from home and then keep them moving every couple of years, so you always had to move and set up life all over again in a new town. The Song is called “Another Town” this is a rough one take guitar and voice demo that I’ll be polishing up when I get a chance!
